Dr. Hadiza Hamma is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Abuja, where she doubles as the Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research. Hadiza holds a Bachelor of Laws, Master of Laws and Ph.D. in Law from the University of Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. She attended Harvard University in the United States, where she became the first-ever graduate to earn a Master of Liberal Arts in Development Practice from the institution.
At Harvard University, she completed the degree with distinction and consequently received two awards, namely, the Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Development Practice Capstone and the Dean’s List
Hadiza has 14 years of law-teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is the first to introduce and teach the postgraduate-level course titled International Development Law and Policy at the University of Abuja. She also serves as Chair and member of several committees at the same institution. She has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters that reflect her major areas of research interest, including Environmental Law and Policy, Natural Resources Law and Policy, Human Rights Law and Policy, Sustainable Development Law and Policy, and International Development Law and Policy. Since joining Legal Practice as a Senior Associate at Bahama Chambers, Dr. Hadiza heads the firm’s human rights and advocacy specialisation group, mentoring young lawyers to become experts in the area. She also has specialty in project finance laws, corporate commercial contract transactions, environment and natural resources laws, as well as public private partnerships.
